Schloss Eckartsau

In the east of Vienna, in the charming Danube wetlands, lies Schloss Eckartsau—closely tied to the joyful and fateful days of the Habsburgs. Impressed by the rich wildlife, Emperor Franz I, husband of Maria Theresa, acquired the estate in the 18th century. In the ornate ballroom with its ceiling fresco, the couple hosted festive dinners and glittering balls. Today, the baroque state rooms still reflect the splendour of that bygone era. Visitors can imagine the carefree life of the nobility in this man-made paradise—so close to Vienna and Bratislava, in perfect harmony between nature and civilization. Come and see for yourself.

Castle park

Anyone who is looking for rest and relaxation will find it during a walk along the hiking trails through the castle park, created in the style of an English landscape garden. After decades of neglect, the 27-hectare plot was restored to a historical landscape garden by the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf). Here, the vastness of the Marchfeld merges with the dense, untamed wilderness of the riparian forests.

Open to the public throughout the year | Free entry!

Café & Shop

The Castle Café is the perfect spot to relax and recharge. Its idyllic setting—either in the peaceful inner courtyard or in front of the castle amidst the park—makes it especially inviting on sunny days.

Don’t miss the museum shop, where you’ll find not only books and charming souvenirs, but also unique castle specialties—like homemade syrup crafted from plants in the park, and the distinctive “Waldbier,” a forest-inspired beer brewed by the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf).
